Need Privacy? The Answer is Acrylic Block Windows

Contractor Steve Roth recently transformed a dilapidated Ohio home that had been in foreclosure into a neighborhood showpiece. One of the ways he accomplished this task was by adding acrylic block windows to the bathroom and kitchen of the 1900s farmhouse-style house to provide the new residents with privacy and style.

“I’ve found that acrylic block windows are vastly underused by contractors in the field during renovation projects,” says Roth. “I consider them one of my ‘secret weapons’ to transform a room while adding design elegance to a home. Since they can be ordered to the specifications of the existing window opening, it’s an easy process to order and install these unique windows.”

For the house in Archbold, Ohio, Roth replaced two of the rotting 100-year-old wood windows in the home with operable casement windows from Hy-Lite Products. The low maintenance vinyl-framed units allow for ventilation in their bathroom and kitchen settings while providing privacy for the new residents. Clear wave blocks were used in the windows to maximize the flow of light into the rooms.

“The acrylic block windows perfectly complement the energy-efficient vinyl windows used throughout this home renovation,” says Roth. “One of the windows is positioned directly above an outdoor deck. Now the occupants don’t have to be concerned about people looking in the window while outside, but they didn’t have to sacrifice natural lighting to gain their privacy. The obscure nature of the acrylic blocks provides privacy to people both inside and outside the home.”

Built with durable white, tan or driftwood vinyl frames, operable windows from Hy-Lite are made-to-order with custom feature options such as diamond block design styles and eight decorative muntin finishes. Made with either six- or eight-inch sized acrylic blocks in a variety of patterns and colors, operable windows allow egress access when installed in bathrooms and other rooms in the home.* To further complement a home’s design, casement windows from Hy-Lite may be specified with either left or right hinges. Windows are available in clear wave, frosted wave and cross rib, and in green wave.

All Hy-Lite acrylic blocks are made of high-quality, scratch-resistant durable acrylic. The airtight blocks are hermetically sealed to help prevent condensation and window units offer similar thermal benefits to traditional, dual-glazed units.

Pre-assembled into complete units at the manufacturing facility, Hy-Lite Products are more than 70 percent lighter than glass block windows, making them easier to install and operate. The fusion-welded vinyl frame surrounding Hy-Lite blocks in the company’s products is virtually maintenance free and will not pit, peel, chalk, flake or crack over time.
